I had the wonderful opportunity to propose to my long-term girlfriend during our trip with Airlie Beach Day Sailing, and I can't thank Tam and Dale enough for the incredible... read more day we had. A truly special trip with loads of wonderful memories; we've told all our friends, and we can't recommend Airlie Beach Day Sailing highly enough 🙂
We'd planned the trip several weeks in advance, and Tam and Dale were so incredibly supportive, recommending catering options (more on that later), destinations, and making sure everything went smoothly. Tam even organised a bouquet of Juno's favourite flowers. Dale was 'in on it' from the get go and super enthusiastic to help, and together over the phone we concocted a plan for a surprise beach proposal.
It was a partially-rainy day when we arrived, but that made the experience more interesting, sailing around the edges of rainclouds and seeing sheets of rain in the distance. 'Amadeus' is luxurious and well-fitted out, and made for wonderfully smooth sailing. Dale plied us with tea and coffee, I steered the boat for a while, and we had a lovely time chatting and getting to know each other as we left the bay.
Our first stop was to Nara Inlet where a short walk uphill reaches 9000-year-old indigenous rock paintings and a great view. When we returned down the clouds were approaching, so we skirted around it and headed for secluded Curlew Beach, where our plan would be put into motion!
When our dinghy touched down on Curlew Beach, Dale encouraged the two of us to go up the beach whilst he (ostensibly) set up the picnic. He actually used the time to half-bury a box of photos in the sand, then conceal himself out of sight on the shore! Juno and I walked back down the beach, where she stumbled across the box. She opened it, I dropped the knee, and she said yes! Dale caught the whole proposal on camera, and afterwards came out to congratulate us. He then left us the beach to ourselves, to enjoy champagne and Anna's picnic, which he'd set up beautifully with flowers and glassware.
After an hour and a bit the rainclouds started to approach, so Dale returned to pick us up and start the leisurely trip back to the marina. On the way back, the skies finally opened and we all got thoroughly drenched! It was a lot of fun, and any cold was thoroughly sorted by Dale's cups of hot tea.
To sum up, this was hands-down the best day trip I've ever been on; every aspect was thoughtfully taken care of, and the spots we visited were stunning. Dale is kind, super friendly, and full of wonderful stories, and he went so far above and beyond to make our day absolutely perfect. Thanks Tam and Dale, for an incredible start to engaged life! 😀
